Who is the Nikau Foundation?

The Nikau Foundation is a charitable trust which provides a simple, effective and lasting way for individuals and families to leave gifts and legacies for local causes. Gifts and donations are held in perpetuity, so providing long term benefits for the well-being of the Wellington region.

Nikau Foundation aims to build a substantial endowment fund that will have the capacity to provide grants to the community that will make a real difference to the Wellington Region.

The Foundation is run by a voluntary board of successful Wellingtonians who have the interests of their city at heart and want to make a positive difference to its future.

Why Donate?

You can make a difference to the future of the Greater Wellington Region.
Your donation will be added to our endowment fund and the income earned will be distributed to organisations of your choice, in your name, forever.

Nikau Foundation is an ideal alternative to setting up your own private charitable trust and removes all of the hassles with trustee succession, charities commission requirements, accounting and audit, etc. Existing Charitable Trusts can easily been wound up and the assets transferred to Nikau Foundation.

Donations can be made while living (significant taxation advantages) or as a bequest through a will.

Recent Projects - Operation Heartbeat

Heartbeat4_1.jpg

Each week, three Wellingtonians fall victim to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) at home, at work or on the street. The condition occurs when electrical impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic, which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating.

Wellington’s current survival rate for SCA is comparable with other major cities, but the Nikau Foundation and Wellington Free Ambulance want to greatly improve residents’ capabilities - to help us match leading international cities such as Seattle, Copenhagen & Oslo, and double the survival rate of witnessed SCA in Wellington.
