Nikau Foundation has sponsored one of Wellington City’s newest events. Ahi Kā is a free extravaganza on the Wellington waterfront and is part of Matariki celebrations.

Nikau Foundation has sponsored the School Art Workshops with seven selected schools, taking part in the parade each year. A symbolic Nikau Foundation frond was added to the communal Nikau Foundation Tree Sculpture as students marched across in the parade with illuminated sculpture and lanterns light the night. This project was designed to sit alongside and integrate with existing teaching and art activities around Matriki and sustainability. The night was successful and bright as the students marched with their lanterns down near the Harbour, as the Nikau Foundation logo floated in the sky.
