Kāpiti Business Chamber members enjoying their networking event, Business After 5, at Ngā Manu witnessed an early act of Christmas cheer on Wednesday when a surprise cheque was donated to Ngā Manu.
Founded in 1974 Ngā Manu, an ecological restoration and conservation trust, operates solely on grants, donations, venue hire and entry fees to meet their running costs. “We are really excited to receive this donation, it was huge surprise,” Ngā Manu’s manager Matu Booth said. “We often hire our hall for private functions to bring in extra income for the Trust – but we didn’t expect an extra gift tonight!”
The cheque came from Nikau Foundation as a ‘pass-through grant’ from an anonymous donor. “We often get approached by donors wanting to give to local causes. We provide advice and a platform of anonymity, if they wish” says Chris Milne, Chair of Nikau Foundation. “Our charitable status means that donors still have the benefits of tax deductible giving.”
