Katherine Mansfield stands tall and proud on the corner of Lambton Quay after the much anticipated three-metre- high statue of the iconic Wellington writer was unveiled in May.
Nikau Foundation, on behalf of Richard and Doreen Evans Charitable Trust, was able to provide $30,000 towards this impressive work.
The statue, by sculptor Virginia King, is the fruit of three years work between the Wellington Sculpture Trust, the Katherine Mansfield Society and the Wellington City Council.
Although impressive during daylight, at night the statue is lit up from inside, to reveal the steel figure is covered in passages of Katherine Mansfield’s writing. Even her hair is made up of shopping lists found in her journals. Be sure to visit night and day!
