The inaugural Nikau Foundation Speech Scholarship was presented to Angie Hagen in May by the Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, Nikau Foundation trustee and Maureen Gray of Speech NZ.
The Nikau Speech Scholarship was made possible by a grant from the Nikau Foundation on behalf of the Laurie Bushell Endowment Fund, a named fund established after he passed away suddenly in 2002. Laurie’s son, James Bushell, was at the award ceremony to witness the presentation of the scholarship. ‘My Dad was a passionate Wellingtonian and a great supporter of the Arts,’ explains James. ‘I know he would have been proud to initiate this sponsorship, and our whole family wishes Angie every success in her studies.’
