Adrian Orr joined Nikau Foundation as a Trustee in late 2018. He was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in March 2018.
His previous appointments include Chief Executive Officer at the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, Deputy Governor and Head of Financial Stability for the Reserve Bank, Chief Economist at Westpac Banking Corporation, Chief Manager of the Economics Department at the Reserve Bank and Chief Economist at The National Bank of New Zealand.
A quote that best sums up Adrian’s intentions for his work with Nikau Foundation is from the Dominion Post in April 2018:
“I am certainly attracted to wanting to make a difference.”
Adrian is New Zealand born and bred, and primarily of Cook Island and Irish descent. He is married to Sue, a novelist, and they have 3 adult children.
We cornered Adrian to ask him a few questions about himself:
If you weren’t at the office today, what would you be doing?
I would be with my wife, family and/or friends fishing, paddle-boarding, and setting low goals at our hideaway.
Why do you love Nikau Foundation?
The sense of purpose the team have to build a beautiful sustainable inclusive society, intergenerationally.
If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?
To Atiu in the Cook Islands – for rest and soul building and watching the village.
